This is one of the most common butterflies that can be found here. It is not an attractive species and I belive most would give it a miss. Not too sure what the ID is, but will check from the butterflycircle website shortly.

Kyaw Htay and I went to a canal along Old Jurong Road this morning to do macro shooting. There were quite a lot of bushes on both sides of the canal but, surprising, not many subjects can be found. Fortunately, we spotted this super cooperative butterfly allowing us to take many shots of it. As I could not find the ID from the Butterflycircle website, I approached Federick Ho who advised me that this is not a butterfly but a moth instead!

Most butterflies are very skittish to human and my success rate of getting a reasonable shot of it is very low. This Mottled Emigrant, which I originally thought to be a Lemon Emigrant, is one exception. It was spotted in a mid-morning flying around me and suddenly perched on a leaf near. To my surprise, it stayed there for more than 20 minutes for me to adjust and refine my shots.
